AKA Nicaragua: Of Water and Volcanoes From active stony volcanoes to lush green mangrove forests and colourful orchids – Nicaragua is the most diverse and largest country in Central America. With an area about the size of Greece, it is the center of the narrow continental bridge between North and South America. The film immerses itself in the impressive landscape of Nicaragua and shows crystal clear lagoons and the seething depths of the volcanoes. 700 kilometres of breathtaking scenery, fairytale lakes and mysterious volcanoes: Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the world, but its natural treasures make it one of the richest. Nicaragua's rock cuts are isolated ecosystems and offer home to many endangered species such as green budgies, cougars and ocelots. The streams, rivers and the coastline are also natural paradises and the home of a unique fauna with iguanas, crocodiles and caimans. Produced by ZDF/Arte 2022.
